According to the Tobago Emergency Management Agency (TEMA), at around 2.45 p.m., the group of young persons from Argyle and environs was swept away from the third level of the Argyle Falls by the river after heavy rainfall in the nearby forest

A sudden gush of water swooped down on the unsuspecting group and Thompson was toppled over by the onrushing water

Walters made attempts to save her, but both drowned, police said

Fire officers responded to the scene and six others were rescued. This was confirmed by Tobago Fire Service public relations officer David Thomas

“When we responded we discovered that the waterfall was very, very active and there were two persons who succumbed to the harshness of the waterfall,” said Thomas

“They were rescued from the water and attempts were made to resuscitate them by medical personnel, but those attempts were unsuccessful,” he added

Chrislon’s mother, Vernice Walters-Bascombe, told the Express she warned her son not to venture to the waterfall

“This time they were harden. This morning we were watching the sea…I said allyuh watch the condition of the sea, allyuh can’t go to the waterfall,” she said
